Armored cable, also known as Type AC or BX electrical cable, is a flexible conduit alternative to pipe and wire installations, manufactured to the UL 4 standard. It uses a 16 AWG bare aluminum bond wire, which serves as the ground path alongside the armor. AC cable is approved for various applications per NEC Code, with a limit of four phase conductors between 14 AWG and 1 AWG. Unlike other cables that use polypropylene wraps or direct extrusion over the conductors, AC cable features a paper wrap.
Applications:
Branch circuits and feeder wiring for commercial, industrial, and multi-residential applications, designed for power, lighting, control, and signal circuits. Suitable for exposed or concealed installations, surface-mounted, embedded in plaster finishes on brick or other masonry (excluding wet or damp locations), fished or run in air voids of masonry block or tile walls, under raised floors, above suspended ceilings, and in other environmental air-handling spaces. Features galvanized aluminum armor.
