Armored cable, also known as Type AC or BX electrical cable, is a flexible conduit alternative to traditional pipe and wire installations, manufactured to meet UL 4 standards. It features a 16 AWG bare aluminum bond wire integrated with the armor as the ground path. AC cable is suitable for various applications as per NEC code, with limitations on the number of phase conductors, typically allowing up to four phases between 14 AWG and 1 AWG. Unlike other cables, AC cable uses a paper wrap, while others often use polypropylene wrap or extrude directly over the conductors.
Applications:
Designed for commercial, industrial, and multi-residential branch circuits and feeder wiring, this solution supports power, lighting, control, and signal circuits. It is suitable for exposed or concealed installations, surface-mounted, embedded in plaster or masonry finishes (except in wet or damp locations), fished, or run in air voids of masonry block or tile walls. It is also ideal for use under raised floors, above suspended ceilings, and in other environmental air-handling spaces. Features galvanized aluminum armor for enhanced durability and protection.
