Armored Cable, also known as Type AC or BX electrical cable, is a flexible conduit traditionally used as an alternative to pipe and wire installations, manufactured to the UL 4 standard. It features a 16 AWG bare aluminum bond wire that works with the armor as the ground path. AC Cable is suitable for various applications according to NEC Code. Key differences between AC Cable and other cable types include its limit of up to four phase conductors, with sizes ranging from 14 AWG to 1 AWG, and the use of a paper wrap, while other cables typically use a polypropylene wrap or extrude directly over the conductors.
Applications:
Commercial, industrial, and multi-residential branch circuits and feeder wiring for power, lighting, control, and signal circuits can be used in a variety of installations. These include exposed or concealed applications, surface-mounted setups, embedded in plaster finish on brick or other masonry (except in wet or damp locations), fished or run in air voids of masonry block or tile walls, under raised floors, above suspended ceilings, and in other environmental air-handling spaces. The cable features galvanized aluminum armor for enhanced durability and protection.
